the kids are alright

although i may be in the midst of report cards {one of the main things i do not like about teaching}, i was having a think about how blessed i am. i choose to live in a tiny place with not much to do, but have a man and pup to be here by my side. the sun shines everyday...and when it doesn't i have a cozy pile of blankets to snuggle up under. i have no real worries; in fact I'd venture to say many of us don't~ which is beautiful as well {trust me, I realise life is not always rosy and indeed can be grey}...
i work with some of the more disadvantaged but positive little kiddies around. every morning they give me a cuddle and at the end of school say thanks. they even giggle at my lame attempts to be funny. with them i feel like a princess. so this post is just images to remind myself of how lucky and in turn happy i should be {and mostly am}.
hope this week-end is a lovely one.
i cant wait for it to begin.

Hi Ashley,

I just discovered your beautiful blog after seeing your comment on the BrisStyle blog :) Your photos are absolutely wonderful, and I really love the quotes you find too!. These photos in particular have put a huge smile on my face, and I am wondering which part of Aust you are in? I lived and worked for a bit over two years in a school in Darwin which was a boarding school for aboriginal children from remote communities. I was a live-in boarding supervisor and tutor, and they were some of the most amazing years of my life. I still miss the kids so much - the way they would oooh and ahhh and clap and squeal when watching Neighbours (especially if there was a kissing scene :P) and the way they would cuddle in and play with my hair and say "Miss, why your hair so white?" I also secretly loved the way we would put them to bed each night in their own single beds and in the morning all the mattresses would be on the floor pushed together and they would all be snuggled up together. That always sort of made sense to me...

Anyway, sorry about writing an essay in your comments. It's been over 10 years since I left Darwin and your post brought back a flood of wonderful memories for me. Thank-you :)

Loved this post. Like the last commenter it brought back memories for me. I spent a great deal of time in darwin/kakadu many years ago and I still miss it.

Hi Ashley,
I have just found your blog via Three Buttons' 'This Is.' I'm thinking through my favourite quotes to choose one for today.

Your blog is just lovely.
Cheers, Louise.
